Through a tool-Portrait, discover their considerations on tools, their views on crafts and handmaking. Born in Barcelona in 1966, Xavier Monclús is an art jeweller. Soon after his studies at the Massana School in Barcelona, his work has been presented in galleries and museums in Europe, United States, Canada and Japan. Since 2013, he lives and works in Maó, Menorca island, Spain.   – If you were a tool ? If I were a tool, I would ask to have a soul and be able to rest a little from time to time – If you were a gesture ? Through a tool-Portrait, discover their considerations on tools, their views on crafts and handmaking. Born in 1962 à San Giovanni Teatino, Fabrizio Tridenti is an Italian art jeweller. After graduating in 1982 from Istituto Statale d’Arte, Penne, he spent a few years as an apprentice in a couple of reknown workshops, before establishing his studio in 1993 in Pescara. Today he lives and works in Vasto.       – If you were a tool ? I want to be loved by my master. – If you were a gesture ? Born in 1968 in Bolzano, Italy, Gabi Veit is a spoon maker, art-jeweller and graphic designer based in South Tyrol and Switzerland. After studying graphic design in Innsbruck and Venice, she founded her own studio in 1994. She then graduated in jewellery design from the Alchimia School in Florence, in 2011.     – If you were a tool ? A spoon – If you were a gesture ? A wink – What is your first or most significant memory related to tools ? The tools for eating were always important for me and the tools for cooking. Through a tool-Portrait, discover their considerations on tools, their views on crafts and handmaking. Born in Haarlem in 1970, Katja Prins  is a Dutch artist. After her training in traditional techniques of jewellery at the Vakschool of Schoonhoven, she studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam (1993-1997). Today she lives and works in Amsterdam.   – If you were a tool ? I actually consider instruments, tools and machines etc. to be extensions from us. And you can reverse that : I also consider the human body to be an instrument/machine/tool, so I am a tool ! – What is your first or most significant memory related to tools ? Not so much to tools, but when I was 15, I had to wear a back-brace for one year, because of Scoliosis : I have a small deformation in my spine. Through a tool-Portrait, discover their considerations on tools, their views on crafts and handmaking. Lisa and Scott Cylinder first met while they were students in jewellery and goldsmithing at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. Since 1988, they have been successfully co-directing their art jewellery studio while pursuing a teaching career. They live and work in Oley, Pennsylvania.   – If you were a tool? We would be a pencil. The pencil represents everything important to us and about us. Hard and soft, additive and reductive, colorful yet capable of only writing in blacks and greys. It also represents an archaic, outmoded (by technology) tool that is still incredibly relevant to us today as makers, both as a way to put ideas on paper and as a material to incorporate in our works.   – If you were a gesture? Through a tool-Portrait, discover their considerations on tools, their views on crafts and handmaking. Juanjo Garcia Martin is a Spanish art jeweller. He lives and works in Malaga. His artistic approach combines different disciplines that he has been practicing indinstinctely since an early age: painting, music and art jewellery.   – If you were a tool ? I think if I were a tool, I would be a hammer, with the aesthetic of the video the Wall, by Pink Floyd! – If you were a gesture ?
