Born in Chiswick, London, Jo Pond is a British art jeweller. After discovering jewellery making at the Berkshire and Loughborough Colleges of Art & Design, she established her design process some years later during her Masters at the School of Jewellery, Birmingham. Today she lives and works in Staffordshire, where, alongside her practice as a studio jeweller, she is employed as a lecturer at the School of Jewellery.
REPURPOSING AS A RE-CREATION
Jo Pond perceives among the most prosaic objects unsuspected aesthetic and narrative potentialities that most of us would not even notice. By collecting them first, then by recycling and modifying them, especially through laser welding, she creates jewels / artifacts that deconstruct our a priori with an obvious tenderness and a consummate talent for understatements.
