Her works are part of the permanent collections of the Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim.Alejandra Solar photographs and collects images from her daily life. She then selects certain figures, landscapes and objects she has discovered to include them in a new narrative context, fueled with mysticism and fantasy. By including these elements in a new context, modifying them and playing with them, she establishes surprising and unexpected links between them and their new environment. The chosen aesthetic is minimalist, arid and fearcefully dramatic. The images resonate with the cold and often dark surfaces of […]

In 2009 and 2011, her works were part of the Schmuck exhibition in Munich.Among the most striking comments about her jewellery, Märta Mattsson particularly remembers this one: "You make jewels for children, not for adults." A quite relevant observation since as the artist confesses, she mostly draws inspiration from  her childhood memories and from that paradoxical sensation of attraction and repulsion brought about by certain small living creatures, and, first and foremost, insects. In line with the aesthetics of […]

MARIE MASSON Born in 1987, Marie Masson is a French artist, a creator of "corporal objects". Combining the techniques of leatherwork, jewellery and plumasserie, her works revisit the codes of ornementation and are at the edge between art jewellery, decorative arts, sculpture and fashion. The artist assembles, diverts and recontextualizes the intimate and natural attributes of the human and animal bodies: hair, leather, feathers and furs are recomposed in the form of pins and objects of great sensuality. Her works are hybrid devices inviting the wearer to adopt new postures or gestures but also to question the codes of power, gender and hierarchies usually attached to ornaments.A student of Monika Brugger at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Art in Limoges (Design option), Marie Masson graduated in 2011. In 2010, she studied at Central St Martin's School in London in the Ceramics, Jewellery and Furniture departments. She has been participating in numerous exhibitions: the Marzee annual Graduate Show at gallery Marzee, in Nijmegen, the Netherlands (2011) ; Dans la ligne de mire, scène du bijou contemporain en France, at the Museum of Applied arts in Paris (2013-14); Triennale Européenne du bijou contemporain, WCC-BF, in Mons, Belgium, in Gustavsbergs, Sweden and in Paris (2017-18); Materio […]

MARIKO KUSUMOTO Born in Kumamoto, Japan, Mariko Kusumoto grew up in a Buddhist temple on Kyushu Island. In 1989, she obtained a BFA in painting and engraving from Musashino Art College in Tokyo, and in 1995, a MFA from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.Today, Mariko Kusumoto lives and works in Massachusetts. Her works are shown in the permanent collections of many museums : the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Koch Collection of the Swiss National Museum, the Racine Art Museum, the Morikami Museum, the Museum of Arts and Design in New York.Mariko Kusumoto's works are divided into two groups and, so to speak, into two artistic periods that are diametrically opposed by the nature of the materials and the techniques they explore. During  eighteen years, the artist has been indeed recognized for her extensive exploration of metal, creating intricate and technically demanding works composed as genuine miniature theaters with the codes of surrealist art and diorama. From 2013 onwards, after completing her most ambitious piece "Pachinko Voyage" which took her a whole year of an exhausting work, she decided to change her medium and turned to textile. To create her new pieces, she uses the […]

NICOLA HEIDEMANN Born in Munich in 1965, Nicola Heidemann is a self-taught artist. Drawing, painting, photography and drawing are some of her favorite mediums alongside her practice of art jewellery. She opened her first studio shortly after graduation in 1985. She has worked as a camera assistant for many years for the production of documentary films and has traveled extensively around the world. An experience that has had a lasting influence on her artistic approach. ARTISTIC STATEMENT I dream of jewellery and about jewellery. I am always eager to know what is developing – what is “cooking” – in the constant dialogue I have with Nature. I do not really feel myself to be a creator in my own right. More a collector.I collect allusions, impressions, associations. A piece of wood can excite me, a shadow on a stone, or light glittering on water. It is the incomplete things that fascinate me. The as yet unfathomed mysteries. They give me and the beholders of my objects space for the imagination to start working. Ideally, those who look upon my objects will remember – as I do – a glorious day spent by a lake, a walk in the woods, or […]

A professor at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Hildesheim since 2002, he lives and works between Berlin and Halle.Georg Dobler was raised in Pforzheim, known as the epicenter of the German jewellery industry. There he followed a classical goldsmith training at the Berufsfachschule für Goldschmiedekunst. In 1973 he decided to leave for Berlin with the intention to apply at the Berlin fine arts university until he found out that the metal department had just closed. He nevertheless remained in Berlin where he worked for some time as the foreman of a major classical jewelry manufacturer. His work raised attention, earning him several awards and recognition of the industrial environment in which he was then evolving. But this recognition was not sufficient to quench his creativity and in 1979 he decided to leave this routine to engage into the more adventurous path of freelance creation. Together with his friends Manfred Bischoff, Winfried Krüger and Gabi Dziuba, he founded a collective workshop, the Werkfabrik. MELANIE BILENKER Born in New York in 1978, Melanie Bilenker is an American artist based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, who translates the historic art of Victorian memorial hair jewelry into work that reflects upon the contemporary era. Instead of implementing the traditional decorative motifs of curls, plaits, and flowers, she depicts ordinary moments of everyday life through self portrait scenes “drawn” in her own hair and set in gold and silver. Bilenker received a BFA in Crafts and Jewelry from the University of the Arts, Philadelphia, and maintains a studio at the JV Collective, a collaborative jewelry workspace. Bilenker’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally in solo and group exhibitions and can be found in numerous public collections : the Donna Schneier Collection, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Racine Art Museum, the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Yale University Art Gallery. ARTISTIC STATEMENT Using a drawing technique inspired by historic hairwork, I glue individual strands to paper in an attempt to preserve and show fleeting time so that it can be revisited. I aim for authenticity, to make an image look […]
