LA Joaillerie par Mazlo

Located in Paris, in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, LA Joaillerie par Mazlo was founded in 2010 by author-jeweller Robert Mazlo with the aim of opening up his studio and personal exhibition space to other forms of artistic expression.

Through solo and group exhibitions that bring together artists from different disciplines around common themes, LA Joaillerie par Mazlo encourages a cross-disciplinary dialogue between artistic media, transcending traditional boundaries and categories. It also aims to promote the artistic dimension of jewellery as a miniature wearable work of art. The selection focuses on artists who do not hesitate to question their medium, their skills and the ornamental dimension of jewellery, turning it into a medium for artistic expression in its own right. The programme aims to support young emerging artists, raise the profile of established artists and educate the eye through exhibitions showcasing the greatest masters in the field. With this in mind, since 2018, LA Joaillerie par Mazlo has become the exhibition venue for the Robert Mazlo Endowment Fund for Art and Contemporary Art Jewellery.

A BESPOKE SCENOGRAPHY

FROM THE MAGIC LANTERN TO THE WONDER BOX

Displaying jewellery is a delicate exercise. For this reason, the gallery has designed its own display modules, directly inspired by Robert Mazlo’s childhood memories. In the 50s, street vendors still travelled the mountain villages of Lebanon carrying magic lanterns on their backs. The jeweller imagined his “Wonder Boxes” by recalling these “Sandouk el-Ferjé”, which would entertain the entire holiday party. Above all, he wanted to find a way to reproduce the fun he had personally experienced as a child watching these short animated films.
Halfway between a magic lantern and a magic box, this display device allows each work of art to unfold its story in the mystery of its little “dark box”.
